Semi-Active Vibration Control of Seat Suspension Equipped with a Variable Equivalent Inertance-Variable Damping Device

The seat suspension has a significant influence on riding comfort in many practical applications, such as heavy duty vehicles, military and high-speed crafts. This paper proposes equipped with variable equivalent inertance-variable damping (VEI–VD) device novel semi-active vibration control strategy. VEI–VD can its inertance by controlling two external resistors electric circuit. Especially, the VEI part of store release energy via inside flywheel, which enables to have four-quadrant controllable capability available force–velocity diagram, similar an active system. First, dynamic model is built, prototype developed tested identify parameters verify characteristics. Then, method proposed for suspension. uses sliding mode controller acquire desired force reducing vibration; then, according system states, tuned force-tracking scheme generate real force. In numerical validation, transmissibility around natural frequency different states. effectiveness strategies types suspensions verified. random excitation test, root means square acceleration reduced 30.72% compared passive seat. shows great potential applications.
